GENERAL SUBMISSION RULES

Anyone may submit an original article to be considered for publication as an email attachment, sent to PA Teacher Educator at journal@pac-te.org, provided they own the copyright to the work being submitted or is authorized by the copyright owner or owners to submit the article.

Submitted manuscripts must not have been previously published or scheduled for publication in an archival journal or book, in either print or electronic form. To ensure a blind peer review process, authors must remove all identifying information from the manuscript prior to submission.

Publication in a working paper series is not considered prior publication. Manuscripts that have previously appeared as conference proceedings must be substantially revised to be eligible for consideration by the Journal. Additionally, manuscripts must not be under review by another journal, in either electronic or print format. Authors must agree not to submit the manuscript to another journal until the Journal’s editorial decision process has been completed.

If you have concerns about the submission terms, please contact the Editors.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE MAXIMUM LENGTH OF MANUSCRIPTS INDICATED BELOW IS RELEVANT NOT ONLY FOR INITIAL SUBMISSIONS BUT ALSO FOR REVISED VERSIONS.

TYPES OF ARTICLES

Submissions to the Pennsylvania Teacher Educator may take the following forms:

  • Research Articles. These scholarly manuscripts draw from relevant disciplines in education and teacher preparation. Submissions are typically organized around a review of the literature, a clearly articulated problem or purpose, research questions, methodology, findings, and discussion, with implications for educator preparation and practice.
  • Voices from the Field. These practitioner-oriented manuscripts address issues of practice relevant to teacher educators, PK–12 practitioners, and educational leaders. Submissions may be descriptive or reflective in nature and may use a first-person voice to highlight lived experiences, innovations, or lessons learned from the field.
  • Essays. Published occasionally, essays include thoughtful commentaries, reflective pieces, or other expressive forms of writing that offer insight into contemporary issues in teacher education, policy, pedagogy, or professional practice.
  • Book and Media Reviews. These reviews examine the key features and potential applications of books, films, podcasts, digital tools, websites, or other instructional resources relevant to teacher educators and education professionals.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

  • The journal accepts submissions on a rolling basis and publishes two issues annually, one in the spring and one in the fall.
  • Manuscripts should be no more than 12 pages of narrative (exclusive of references, tables, and appendices), using the latest APA style, and double-spaced with one-inch margins.
  • Manuscripts should be submitted as an email attachment, sent to the PA Teacher Educator at journal@pac-te.org.
  • A cover page should include the title of the article, a brief (no more than 50-word) abstract, the name, position, place of employment, mailing address, phone number, e-mail address, and a 2-3 sentence description of the background and experience of each author.
  • The title of the article should also appear on page 1 of the manuscript, but it does not include the name(s) of the author(s) on page 1.
  • Pages should be numbered consecutively, including the bibliography, but the author’s name should not appear on the manuscript itself.
  • Charts or illustrative material will be accepted if space permits. Such materials must be camera-ready. Photographs will usually not be used unless they are black-and-white and of high quality.
  • Authors are expected to take full responsibility for the accuracy of the content in their articles, including references, quotations, tables, and figures. The editorial board reserves the right to edit articles accepted for publication.
  • Authors of manuscripts accepted for publication are asked to sign a copyright release to PAC-TE. This allows PAC-TE to publish the information in the Pennsylvania Teacher Educator, to publish the information in future PAC-TE publications, and to grant permission to persons or organizations that formally request the right to reprint the material in whole or in part.
  • Authors of manuscripts accepted for publication are also expected to make a presentation about their article at the PAC-TE Teacher Education Assembly in October.

LANGUAGE AND GRAMMAR

All submissions must be in English (both British and American are acceptable). Except for common foreign words and phrases, foreign words and expressions should be avoided. Authors should use proper standard English grammar. When possible, foreign terms should be italicized.

MATHEMATICS

Roman letters used as variables in mathematical expressions should be italicized. Roman letters used as part of multi-letter function names should not be italicized. Whenever possible, subscripts and superscripts should be a smaller font size than the main text. Short mathematical expressions should be typed inline.

Authors do not receive remuneration for articles accepted for publication. Pennsylvania Teacher Educator is an open-access journal, and published articles are freely available online to authors and readers. There is no fee for manuscript submission or peer review.

Submission Process and Timeline

All submitted manuscripts are subject to a double-blind peer-review process by a minimum of two reviewers who have expertise in the area of the manuscript topic and/or methodology. Journal editors select reviewers. During the review process, reviewers attend to several things, including:

  • Relevance and interest of the topic to the field of teacher education
  • Concision of writing
  • Use of relevant literature
  • Appropriate and accurate reporting of methodology
  • Useful insights of the research reported

Once completed, reviewers are asked to submit their review to an editor. Editors notify authors of submission status within 4-6 weeks of submission. Once an article is accepted for publication, the editors work with the author to create a final, publishable version and combine all articles for a specific volume and issue into a single final volume for publication.

Authors who submit a revision are not guaranteed that the revised manuscript will be accepted. Rejected articles are not reviewed a second time.
