Early Childhood Education/Generalist – Appointment Stream/Full-Time Assistant Professor (#24009181)
The Education Division at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown is seeking applicants for a full-time Assistant Professor to teach early childhood methods and other education courses in addition to supervising education majors in public schools, beginning August 2025.

Responsibilities also include: advising undergraduate students, supervising pre-service teachers in field and clinical experiences; supervising student teachers; collaborating with local school districts and stakeholders; and upholding the mission and goals of the Education Division. This is an appointment stream faculty position, located on the Johnstown campus of the University of Pittsburgh.

Requirements:

  • Doctorate degree in Elementary/Early Childhood Education or a related field is preferred. Candidates at the ABD (all but the doctorate) level will be considered if degree completion date is by start of appointment.
  • Minimum of three years classroom teaching experience with Pre-K to 6 grade students.
  • Successful teaching and supervision experience at the college level and a strong commitment to working with local schools and the community.
  • Demonstrate expertise in current early childhood theory and best practices with a commitment to excellent teaching and mentoring pre-service teachers and knowledge of collaborative models of teacher preparation. Successful applicants will be individuals who are prepared to assist with program coordination and assessment for undergraduate teacher preparation.
  • Demonstrate the potential for instructional effectiveness and professional collaboration.
  • Demonstrate expertise in working with, teaching, and leading diverse groups. The University is especially interested in quality candidates who can contribute, through their teaching, scholarship and service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.

the university of Pittsburgh at Greensburg

The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg Department of Education is seeking a full-time appointment stream assistant professor/instructor beginning in the 2025-2026 academic year.  Responsibilities for the position will include teaching 12-credits (usually four courses) each semester in person on campus. Courses may include educational psychology, social foundations, early childhood engagement, family-school collaboration, and/or general education courses. Duties for these courses will include designing the courses according to Pennsylvania Department of Education teacher education competencies, assessing students appropriately, and modeling best practices for the student. The successful candidate may also be asked to supervise student teachers. 

Additional university expectations of the position include effective advising and mentoring of students, service to campus and university, and continuing scholarly and professional development.  

Successful applicants will provide evidence of successful teaching experience and of a professional development plan. A background in early childhood education is desired. Additionally, the University of Pittsburgh values candidates with an interest in matters of diversity. 

The successful candidate will possess a PH.D. or an Ed.D., but a Master’s degree with teaching experience may be considered. Experience teaching in higher education is a plus. Preference will be given to candidates with a terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.).

Current Opening

Reporting to the Education Department Chair, this new faculty position offers the successful candidate the unique opportunity to assist in the development of our new special education curriculum and certification at Mount Aloysius.   

The Assistant Professor will teach courses in early childhood education, in the PK-4, 4-8, and 7-12 certification programs, as well as in the new PK-12 Special Education certification program and general education courses. This position will also be responsible to develop and coordinate the special education certification program options, write new curriculum, and assist with departmental work related to curriculum development, assessment and accreditation. During the spring 2025 semester, the faculty member will be given release time to develop the new curriculum for submission to the Pennsylvania Department of Education under the supervision of the department chair.  The faculty member will also have the opportunity to advise the student chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children club and participate in professional development.
