CALL FOR PROPOSALS STANDARDS and INDICATORS
for PRESENTING at the
41st ANNUAL TEACHER EDUCATION ASSEMBLYOCTOBER 24-26, 2012

The PAC-TE Board of Directors has asked the Spring and Fall TEA Conference Planning Committees to focus professional development at upcoming conferences on the Association of Teacher Educators' (ATE) Standards for Teacher Educators.TEA 2012 proposals must address ONE and may address UP to THREE of the nine Association of Teacher Educators' (ATE) Standards for Teacher Educators.
Proposals must also address at least ONE and may address UP to THREE indicator(s) for each standard chosen.
The complete standards document (including additional standards definition, indicators, artifact suggestions, and references) is posted on the PAC-TE Proposal Website. Additional resources on the ATE Standards can be found on the ATE Web site at www.ate1.org/pubs/Standards.cfm.
THE ASSOCIATION OF TEACHER EDUCATORS To help all teacher candidates and other school personnel impact student learning, accomplished teacher eduators demonstrate the following nine standards:
STANDARDS FOR TEACHER EDUCATORS
Accomplished Teacher Educators . . .
STANDARD 1
Teaching -- Model teaching that demonstrates content and professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions reflecting research, proficiency with technology and assessment, and accepted best practices in teacher education.STANDARD 2
Cultural Competence -- Apply cultural competence and promote social justice in teacher education.STANDARD 3
Scholarship -- Engage in inquiry and contribute to scholarship that expands the knowledge base related to teacher education.STANDARD 4
Professional Development -- Inquire systematically into, reflect on, and improve their own practice and demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development.STANDARD 5
Program Development -- Provide leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating teacher education programs that are rigorous, relevant, and grounded in theory, research, and best practice.STANDARD 6
Collaboration -- Collaborate regularly and in significant ways with relevant stakeholders to improve teaching, research, and student learning.STANDARD 7
Public Advocacy -- Serve as informed, constructive advocates for high quality education for all students.STANDARD 8
Teacher Education Profession -- Contribute to improving the teacher education profession.STANDARD 9
Vision -- Contribute to creating visions for teaching, learning, and teacher education that take into account such issues as technology, systemic thinking, and world views.
CONFERENCE THEME
TEA proposals must also address the conference theme, Change the Conversation: Step Up! Speak Out!, by demonstrating how the presenter(s) curriculum, instruction, assessment, research, and/or collaborations (with Pre K-12 and other partners) demonstrate PAC-TE beliefs as outlined in Assuring and Sustaining Excellence in Quality Teacher Preparation at www.pac-te.org/quality-preparation.pdf.SESSION FORMATS
A proposal may be for a workshop, roundtable, poster, panel or concurrent session. Session formats are defined as follows:
- Workshop One-hour and fifty-minute session designed to provide instruction with a HIGH degree of active participant involvement.
- Roundtable Fifty-minute session that provides participants the opportunity to discuss a topic with the presenter, author, and/or researcher.
- Poster Fifty-minute session that visually displays a completed or in progress research study or a program/project. Poster sessions are designed to foster maximum interaction with the audience. Proposers(s) must be willing to construct a poster exhibit of high quality that can stand alone in conveying information. All poster sessions will be scheduled on Thursday, October 25, 2012. Attendees will circulate among the posters to discuss them with the presenter(s), who must be present.
- Panel Fifty-minute session that is moderated and interactive. Panel sessions include participant interaction with the panelists.
- Concurrent Fifty-minute session in which individuals present on a topic relevant to the field. Participant interaction is strongly recommended.
PROPOSAL GUIDELINES
Please prepare your proposal following these guidelines. The TEA Proposal Form (Word 97-2003) on the PAC-TE website at www.pac-te.org/tea-proposal2012.doc includes the following sections, all of which must be completed.
Overview Section:
- TITLE Descriptive title for use in the conference program
- FORMAT of SESSION (Choose one): workshop, roundtable, poster, panel, or concurrent session
- SESSION ORGANIZER/MAIN CONTACT PERSON name, institution, address, office and home phone numbers, e-mail address
- ADDITIONAL PRESENTERS names, institutions, addresses, office and home phone numbers, e-mail addresses
- ABSTRACT a description of 25 words or less of the session for use in the conference program
- BRIEF BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH of each presenter, to be used by the presider at your session
Summary Section:
[IMPORTANT NOTE -- Proposals are chosen through a blind review process. DO NOT include any information about institutional or professional affiliation in this summary section.}
- TITLE Descriptive title for use in the conference program
- FORMAT of SESSION (Choose one): workshop, roundtable, poster, panel, or concurrent
- ATE STANDARD(S) AND INDICATOR(S) ADDRESSED (Proposals must address ONE and may address UP TO THREE standards; Proposals must also address ONE and may address UP to THREE indicators for each standard chosen.)
- OBJECTIVES of your session
- SUMMARY of your session in 200 words or less. (NOTE: Proposals exceeding this length will not be considered by the Planning Committee.)
- PLANS for PARTICIPANT INVOLVEMENT (Plans must match session format.)
CRITERIA FOR REVIEWING PROPOSALS:
- Relevance to the ATE Standards and Indicators chosen and to the conference theme - Change the Conversation: Step Up! Speak Out! (6 points)
- Clearly stated objectives of the session (6 points)
- Quality of the ideas in the summary of the session (6 points)
- Organization and clarity in the summary of the session (6 points)
- Plans for participant involvement match session format (6 points)
- Appropriateness of the content of the session for the PAC-TE teacher educator audience (12 points)
PROPOSAL PROCESS:
- Proposals must be submitted electronically no later than NOON on THURSDAY, MARCH 1, 2012.
- Access the TEA Proposal Submission form on the PAC-TE website at www.pac-te.org/tea-proposal2012.doc.
- Save the uncompleted form to your hard or flash drive. Complete the form electronically. Save the form to your hard or flash drive.
- Send the completed form as an attachment to the Executive Director at pacte@coaxpa.com.
- An e-mail message from the Executive Director to the session organizer/main contact person will acknowledge receipt of proposal.
- Notice of proposal acceptance or rejection will be sent via e-mail to each session organizer/main contact person no later than May 1, 2012.
- All presenters must register for the TEA and pay the appropriate registration fee (member or non-member) no later than September 1, 2012.
