President's Report
September 16, 2011

Since the conclusion of the PAC-TE Board of Directors Meeting on June 23, 2011, I have engaged in the following association-related activities:

As President –

  • Consulted with national, regional, and state stakeholders in teacher preparation organizations’ leadership;
  • Corresponded with Pennsylvania Department of Education officials about program approval guidelines;
  • Attended meetings of the PA State Board of Education;
  • Attended meetings of PA State Board of Education Committee on Teacher and School Leader Effectiveness;
  • Engaged in planning for PAC-TE’s participation in ATE summer 2011 national conference with ATE planning committee and local arrangements committee;
  • Attended the ATE summer conference in Philadelphia and co-presented at a session highlighting the initiatives of PAC-TE;
  • Communicated with Secondary Certification Programs Focus Group and with PDE on the question of an implementation timeline for field experience requirements mandated by 49-2;
  • Prepared announcements and shared information from AACTE on the U.S. News and World Report/National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) project intended to evaluate teacher preparation programs;
  • Drafted announcements and introductions about teacher preparation issues and events for TidBits releases;
  • Corresponded with ACSR unit representatives and with ACSR national coordinator at AACTE about new and revised U.S. DOE regulations impacting teacher preparation programs offered by IHE’s;
  • Fielded questions from various PAC-TE institutional and individual members;
  • Contacted PAC-TE members identified as possible Audit Committee participants and coordinated their appointments with Audit Committee Chairperson;
  • Collaborated with PASCD President on the development of a K-16 and beyond partnership under the theme of excellence in teacher preparation;
  • Offered testimony on assessment of teacher and administrator effectiveness during the public comment session of the 20 July 2011 meeting of the PA State Board of Education in Harrisburg;
  • Drafted and sent an invitation to the PA Secretary of Education to participate in the 2011 PAC-TE Teacher Education Assembly;
  • Coordinated the organization of a Master Plan Work Group;
  • Introduced plans for a Government Relations Committee meeting with Harrisburg legislators and policy makers and followed up with telephone and electronic correspondence;
  • Coordinated selection and appointment of TEA Planning Committee Chairpersons Designates.
