President's Report
January 14, 2011

Since the conclusion of the PAC-TE Board of Directors Meeting on October 27, 2010, I have engaged in the following association-related activities:

As President –

  • Consulted with national, regional, and state stakeholder in teacher preparation organizations’ leadership;
  • Corresponded with Pennsylvania Department of Education officials about program approval guidelines;
  • Made final preparations for 2010 TEA with Executive Director and Planning Committee Chairperson and presided over banquet and business sessions;
  • Collaborated with PAC-TE Executive Director, Past President, and President-elect in development of a comprehensive PAC-TE vision statement and program review survey document;
  • Prepared cover letters for vision/survey document;
  • Conducted TEA follow-up communications with Board of Directors, registration desk support staff, and spring 2011 conference planning committee;
  • Participated in PDE informational hearing on December 1, 2010, regarding University of Southern California’s master’s degree in teaching proposal;
  • Reviewed findings gathered by focus group and institutions-alike sessions held at the 2010 TEA;
  • Corresponded with PAC-TE representative to AACTE over proposed NCATE Alliance (clinical supervision initiative stemming from Blue Ribbon panel report, “Clinical Preparation and Partnerships for Improved Student Learning”);
  • Reviewed IRS Form 990EZ with Executive Committee;
  • Discussed with PDE and responded to in the PPS/TNTP (Pittsburgh Public Schools/Then New Teacher Project) proposal and resolution approved by the PA State Board of Education on 11/18/10. I commented that the PPS initiative could be replicated in other high needs locations with the participation of Pennsylvania's own teacher preparation IHE's. I also believe that as the two year conditional status of the PPS initiative undergoes review there should be thoughtful consideration about engaging Pittsburgh area IHE's in the program, and I would urge those responsible for assuring the quality of the program to take into account the excellent teacher preparation resources that are already in the Pittsburgh region;
  • Attended meetings of the PA State Board of Education;
  • Reviewed ATE unit awards document and prepared transmittal letter for document submission;
  • Crafted wording for ATE 2011 annual conference program advertisement;
  • Continued discussions with the Technology Integration Committee with a focus on the use of credit cards to enroll in PAC-TE and register for conferences and the potential applications for Adobe Connect;
  • Corresponded with office of Governor Elect Tom Corbett to invite him to speak at the closing session of the 2011 TEA.
