PAC-TE Board of Directors Meeting
Minutes

The PAC-TE Board of Directors met via telephone conference on September 12, 2008, with the following members: John Butzow, Michele Cheyne, Mary Dupuis, Jacqueline Edmonson, Clythera Hornung, Jean James, Lois Johnson, Robert King, Beverly Melenyzer, Linda Norris, Kathleen Ruthkosky, Sally Sentner, and Lewis Strouse. Executive Director Jim Flynn was also in attendance.

President Kathy Ruthkosky called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m., and the minutes of the June 18-19, 2008 annual retreat were approved under a motion by Mary Dupuis, seconded by Lois Johnson.

The president's report generated much discussion concerning the observation faculty matrix currently being proposed for implementation by the PDE. John Butzow moved and Lewis Strouse seconded that President Ruthkosky appoint a committee to offer to assist in the development of a self-observational instrument. The motion passed unanimously, and the president's report was accepted by acclimation.

The executive director and treasurer's reports (Association and conference accounts) were also accepted.

There was no old business.

Under new business, Mary Dupuis moved and John Butzow seconded that Terry Blue be supported by the organization to attend Karl Girton's farewell dinner as president of the State Board of Education. The motion passed unanimously.

No action was taken on the Friend of Education Award.

President Ruthkosky presented a written proposal for professional development for possible submission to the PDE. After considerable discussion, Mary Dupuis moved and Beverly Melenyzer seconded approval of the proposal. The motion carried without dissent.

The spring conference is scheduled for Friday, April 17, 2009, at the Penn State Conference Center. Mary Dupuis, Cly Hornung, Sally Sentner, Kathy Ruthkosky, and Jim Flynn volunteered to serve on the planning committee. It was also decided to ask president-elect candidates Jay Hertzog and Jane Bray to join the committee.

Under a Mary Dupuis motion, seconded by Sally Sentner, it was unanimously decided to confer service awards to the following individuals: Terry Blue, John Criswell, Susan Criswell, Jim Nolan, Fred Savitz, Karen Scanlon, and Theona Waxbom.

Next, Cly Hornung provided an update on progress of the LFTE Grant activities. Regional meetings have not yet been scheduled, A report must be submitted to LFTE before the end of 2008.

The next item of business was addressed by Lois Larson Johnson moving and Mary Dupuis seconding that Linda Norris be appointed as associate editor of the PAC-TE Journal. The motion passed unanimously.

Regarding ETS's participation at the TEA, Kathy Ruthkosky reported that Jerry DeLuca will be present at the Friday general session in conjunction with the PDE.

James Flynn reported that no formal applications have been received for the position of executive director.

The Board was reminded that its next meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2008, in the Regency Suite at the Harrisburg-Hershey Holiday Inn.
