Executive Director's Report
January 15, 2010

Since the October 28, 2009, meeting of the PAC-TE Board of Directors, I have engaged in the following association-related activities:

  • Membership
    • received institutional and individual membership checks, forwarded checks to the Treasurer, forwarded database information to the Secretary
    • worked with our clerical support person to post a password-required link to the membership spreadsheets from the top PAC-TE Web page
  • Spring Conference 2010 Planning
    • met with the planning committee via phone conference on December 1
    • secured the Toftrees Golf Resort and Conference Center for Friday, April 16, 2010, for the conference, to include a block of lodging rooms for the evening proceeding the conference
    • with the conference chair drafted the conference schedule, registration flyer, and budget
    • requested breakout session descriptions and technology/room set up needs from presenters
  • TEA 2010 Planning
    • met with the Planning Committee at the TEA Conference on October 29, at which a theme and general direction were set
    • secured space and catering for and supported the Planning Committee at its December 4 meeting in State College
    • working from the Committee’s recommendations and with the agreement and suggestions of the Executive Committee developed and published the TEA 2010 Call for Proposals, a revised Criteria for Proposals, an electronic proposal submission process and form, a post card and e-mail call, and supporting Web pages and documents
    • mailed and e-mailed the 2010 Call for Proposals
    • arranged an April 15, 2010, planning committee meeting at the Sleep Inn to review proposals and plan conference support details
  • ATE
    • assisted Mary Dupuis in collecting materials and editing of PAC-TE’s application for ATE Awards
    • purchased a small ad in the ATE annual conference program booklet, as directed by the Board
  • Member Communications
    • updated the PAC-TE Web site to include Spring Conference and TEA date-savers, updates to the journal article lists, link to PA House and Senate Education Committee members, minutes, and reports
    • worked with the Executive Committee to prepare, our clerical support person to publish, the Piper Press to print, and Thomas Lee Printing and Mailing to mail the December News Notes.
    • Tidbits
      • received the resignation of John Johnson as Tidbits publisher.
      • sent several Tidbits e-mails to the membership -- information on a PDE workshop, information on a PASSHE PDS conference, EPLC newsletters, the TEA 2010 electronic call for proposals/proposal submission form/ATE standards, the PA Secretary of Education’s announcement of the University of Southern California’s application to offer an online Master of Arts in Teaching online degree in Pennsylvania, and the Professional Standards and Practices Commission’s proposed amendments to the Professional Educator Discipline Code.
  • began a subscription to Carbonite, a Web-based computer file backup service. PAC-TE files are now being backed up on an ongoing, automatic basis.
